I have been in conflict with my beloved. At first, I checked the planetary alignments—the moon, the stars. Is it Mercury Retrograde? Is it him? Is it me?
It was as though we were screaming from the inside out in the same language that wasn’t translating. He may as well have been from Mars, and I from Venus. Perhaps we are.
Even still, beneath the conflict—the words that were said and not meant, the words meant and not said—we were longing for the same thing: to be seen, heard and loved wholly.
It seemed it wasn’t only us who were in conflict. My social media feeds are full of divisive posts from people who had forgotten what it feels like to be loved by another. Cowardly keyboard warriors project their pain disguised as truth. Men degrade women. Women degrade men. Content creators with millions of views capitalise on this degradation the same way I assume weapons companies capitalise on world wars.
We have been led so astray from our natural ties with one another that there are whole movements of people choosing to remain partner-free. For a moment, I almost did, too.
There is something out of alignment here. It can’t be normal that two parts of the same whole are preferring to sever than to bond. There aren’t many things in the natural world that survive in isolation, yet we are feeling as though isolation is our only hope…
How could this be?
I believe it is because the masculine and feminine are at war.
Just as hurt people hurt people, wounded cultures create wounded relationships. Women carrying generations of betrayal, silencing, and suppression learn to protect themselves. Men carrying generations of emotional deprivation, disconnection, and shame learn to armour themselves. Both become guarded. Both become defensive. Both begin relating to one another through the lens of past wounds rather than present truth.
The result is a cycle where each side reacts to the other’s pain, reinforcing the very divide they long to heal. What should be a sacred dance becomes a struggle for safety, power, validation, and belonging.
How did we become so wounded that self-protection began to feel safer than connection?
Well, you see, we are all casualties of a patriarchal culture that severed us from our connection to the divine mother, to the earth Mother, and ultimately, to the sacred feminine that exists both within and around us.
Strip the feminine away, and you remove nurture, softness, intuition, receptivity, creativity, compassion, and connection. You sever the relationship with the body, with nature, with community, and with the cycles that remind us of our divine place in the long story of the Earth.
Without place, we are left lost, wandering through life without meaning.
Without meaning, we are left barren.
In a previous post, I spoke about how we are a world that forgot its mother. Because when our whole culture has been stripped of the divine feminine, it’s no wonder we’re walking around with half of our hearts broken.
This severance shows differently for men and women.
In the most extreme case, for men, it creates what modern times call the ‘manosphere,’ where men view women through the lens of consumption, conquest, and utility rather than their divinely sacred counterpart. In place of his divine love, protection and reverence, there is now a heart made of stone.
For women, it creates the mask of hyperindependence. What begins as a survival strategy becomes an identity, and soon enough she learns that it is safer to rely on herself than to be betrayed, harmed, or abandoned by her man. In place of her everflowing current of divine love, there is now a well that has run dry.
This is not so dissimilar to what has happened to our Earth.
Man extracts from Her, takes from Her, uses Her for their gain, and then wonders why the waters run dry, and the droughts come, and the fires ravage, and the earthquakes swallow whole cities.
Yes, the Earth is abundant, but take from Her without reciprocity, and She will retaliate.
Take from the feminine, and she will withdraw her love.
So where do we go from here?
We need to rise from the wounded into the sacred. To see our wounds without making them our identity. To recognise that beneath the anger, blame, resentment, and division lies a deeper longing—to be seen, to be safe, to be loved.
The invitation now is not to win the war, but to end it.
The masculine must rise through his own dark night of the soul, away from domination, and into devotion. Through integrity. Through reverence for life, for the Earth, for the feminine, and for himself.
And the feminine, when she feels safe enough once more, can begin to soften into her truest nature. Into intuition, creativity, receptivity, compassion, and love.
This is when the world will heal.
This is when the war will end.
